At 18:50:52 on March 30, 2023, PIESAT Information Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as PIESAT) "Nuwa Constellation" successfully launched four remote sensing satellites which carried the Long March 2D carrier rocket at the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center and entered the predetermined orbit at the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center. The launch mission was a complete success.
The "Nuwa Constellation" project is a plan for PIESAT to focus on the country's major strategic needs. The construction of the whole industry chain of Ligofen remote sensing aims to realize the global rapid revisit of earth observation, and use the laser inter-satellite communication network to build a global independent controllable real-time remote sensing hybrid constellation. The first phase of the project includes a radar remote sensing constellation composed of 28 radar satellites and an optical remote sensing constellation composed of 10 panchromatic 0.5-meter eight-spectrum and multi-spectral 2-meter optical satellites.
The four high-resolution X-band synthetic aperture radar satellites successfully launched this time are the first missions of PIESAT's "Nuwa Constellation". A multi-satellite distributed interferometric synthetic aperture radar satellite system using a four-satellite wheel (Cartwheel) formation configuration. The satellite system consists of "1 main satellite + 3 auxiliary satellites”, which has the capabilities of global high-resolution wide-range imaging, high-precision surveying and mapping, and deformation monitoring. It can quickly and efficiently produce high-precision digital surface models (DSM) and complete global Non-polar region surveying and mapping tasks, with the ability to complete global land-based mapping tasks within one year, and provide multiple types of remote sensing data products.
The satellite system has broad business application prospects and has great advantages in urban geological disaster monitoring, ocean monitoring, flood disaster monitoring, and surface subsidence monitoring. It can significantly fill the gap in the domestic InSAR satellite application market and help China's commercial aerospace development to a new height.
